Sri Swami Vidyanand is a famous and worldwide recognized Teacher. Being a founder of Transformational Yoga he synthesized Hatha, White Tantra, Raja, Mantra, Ashtanga and Kundalini Yoga techniques for rapid self-transformation.
Today Sri Swami Vidyanand helps people from big cities to get rid of stress or to minimize its consequences applying Transformational yoga system. He also has organized Transfomational Yoga courses in the Centre on behavioral health of the University of Hong Kong.
Swami Vidyanand was born in the family that followed bhakti-yoga tradition for many generations. The first teacher of future yoga master was his father Sri Harihar Goswami. He was a well-known and respected yogin who has created a style being spread under name “Yoga Mandir from Datiya”. Moreover, the place of Swami Vidyanand’s birth – Datiya, the city in central Indian state Madhya Pradesh, is well-known for its strong spiritual environment. This place is also one of 17 sacred tantric centers.
Being young Swami Vidyanand learned from prominent yoga masters in India and anonymous ascetics in the Himalayas. One of his teachers was Swami Satyananda Saraswati – a famous guru and a founder of the Bihar School of Yoga. Guru has initiated Swami Vidyanand thus granting him a cleric status. After this prefix “Sri” has been added to his name. This was an exceptional case as for youngster to get such title from a teacher was almost impossible. After some time Sri Swami Vidyanand has been trained by Swami Rama, the founder of the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy.
But a special influence on Swami Vidyanand’s outlook and system had Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and philosophy of The Mother (Mirra Alfassa). While teaching in Sri Aurobindo’s Ashram in Adchini, Delhi, for more than 10 years, Swami Vidyanand managed to shape “Transformational yoga” to holistic methodology. Delhi division rewarded him with a title of “Lifetime member of the Sri Aurobindo Society” for special merits and considerable contribution into Integral Yoga popularization.
Currently Sri Vidyanand’s activity goes far beyond borders of one country. He has organized yoga alliances of Asia, Pacific region, India, Europe, America, Africa and eventually founded Yoga Alliance International to unite devotees of ancient Indian tradition. Swami Vidyanand is a “The Bhaskar Award” prize winner. This prize is regarded as the highest award presented by prestigious Indian organization “Bharat Nirman”. Sri Vidyanand was honored for personal contribution in promotion of ancient Indian knowledge and practices.
